What the hell is River People Rebuild (RPR)?
On September 1, 2021, the “remnants” of Hurricane Ida brought four and a half feet of water into the main living area of my home and changed my life over the span of a couple hours. It sucked, but the kindness, help and genorosity my family and I have received from friends, family, neighbors and a strange man who calls himself as Street Eddie has been overwhelming.
River People Rebuild is a FREE long-form newsletter that aims to tell a personal story about the effects of natural disasters and answer a question I’m asked several times per day by people who are invested in my family’s recovery: How is the rebuilding process going? With River People Rebuild (read as a statement or an event), my goal is to provide interesting and ocassionally funny updates on the progress of said rebuild as well as find creative ways to thank the many, many individuals who have helped my family during our most vulnerable time. On the last Sunday of each month, River People Rebuild subscribers will receive an array of updates (posts, email transcripts, photo essays, the ocassional audio interview, answers to readers’ questions, etc.) on our journey, the status of our home repair and, if I can finish my sewing class in a timely manner, a brand new tote bag!
